Rolling Into Fun: The Y Ki Waho Play Trailer Brings Play to the People

Since its launch , the Y Ki Waho Play Trailer has been hitting the road and turning everyday parks into pop-up play havens for tamariki across Hawke’s Bay. With over 1,000 participants already engaged. This mobile play service is proving to be more than just fun and games; it's a way of bringing communities together and creating spaces for joy, connection, and discovery.

Designed especially for 6–10-year-olds, the Play Trailer is packed with games, activities, and all the gear needed to get kids moving, creating, and playing outdoors. But more than that, it’s creating moments where whānau can pause and connect with their local community—and each other.

We’ve Been Here, There, and Everywhere!

Our Play Trailer has already popped up in parks all over the region:

Flaxmere Park – We saw laughter echoing across the trees as tamariki got stuck into activities with new friends.

Anderson Park – Last week, our trailer made its mark with loads of creative fun and energetic games.

Camberley – Just yesterday, the trailer rolled in and quickly became the heart of the park. The smiles said it all!

Lions Community Park, Mayfair – We had an epic day meeting new faces and sharing the magic of play with the Mayfair community.

Every stop is unique, but one thing stays the same—kids having a blast and communities connecting.

Why It Matters

Play is more than just a way to pass time—it’s essential to healthy development, creativity, and wellbeing. Through Y Ki Waho, we’re making play more accessible and inclusive by bringing it directly into the heart of communities. It’s about lowering barriers, inviting everyone to join in, and making sure all tamariki have a chance to feel seen, supported, and celebrated.

What’s Next?

We’re not slowing down any time soon. The Play Trailer will continue to roll into parks near you—so keep an eye out for our flag, pop by, say kia ora, and join in on the fun.

Big thanks to everyone who’s come out to play so far—this is only the beginning!
