The Y Takes 18 Young Leaders on an Unforgettable Summer Camp Adventure

In December, 18 of our incredible young people kicked off their summer with an action-packed Leadership Development Camp at the beautiful Ranui Farm Park. Set against the backdrop of rolling hills and sunshine, this three-day adventure was all about fun, friendship, and building leadership skills that last a lifetime.

The camp was part of our ongoing commitment to youth development—giving rangatahi the chance to step outside their comfort zones, grow their confidence, and try new things in a supportive, team-focused environment.

From flying down the zip wire, splashing around on the waterslide, to mastering paddle boarding and kayaking, our young leaders threw themselves into every challenge. We mixed in classic camp favourites like archery, golf, and BMXing, all designed to help build resilience, communication, and trust through shared experiences.

But this camp wasn’t just about high-energy activities—it was also about stepping up. The crew planned and cooked their own meals, worked together on team-building challenges, and took time to reflect on what leadership means in their own lives and communities.

Whether it was racing bikes through the bush, standing up on a paddle board for the first time, or cheering each other on at archery, the smiles said it all. There’s something powerful about being out in nature, learning life skills, and making memories with new mates.

These experiences shape more than just leaders—they shape kind, confident, connected young people ready to make a difference in their world.

We're proud of every one of the rangatahi who came on this journey with us. Watch this space as they take what they’ve learned and bring it back into their schools, communities, and whānau.

Ngā mihi to all the staff, volunteers, and whānau who helped make this camp possible. You helped light the spark.
