For various reasons, some students just don’t do well at school. Some have already dropped out of formal education and others are struggling. We know that all schools are doing their best to help these students but many schools face resource issues that limit what help they can offer. And that’s where Y Education can help. The programmes have been very successful in delivering foundation education courses around New Zealand.
The Y’s Y Education programmes are currently enrolling students in Hawke’s Bay. We offer two fees-free courses:
Y-Skills for Life, an Intensive Literacy and Numeracy (ILN) course
Skills for You/ Te Papa Ako Toi, a 60-credit, Level 1 certificate course.
The benefits for students
We are targeting youth who have fallen or are falling through the gaps in our education system. Our courses are specifically designed to meet student needs: small classes, one-on-one coaching, individualised lesson plans, pick up and drop off from their homes and, a safe and supportive learning environment.
The Y guides students along a pathway of learning with the objectives of:
Building confidence and self-esteem
Developing basic life skills and knowledge
Improving employability
Preparing for further learning
Learning positive social interactions
Achieving NCEA Level 1 (where applicable).
